Laughter Is The Best Medicine

Even during the bleakest periods of Taylor’s illness, there was nothing so life affirming as a full-on belly laugh. Right then, right there: in the hospital room, in the ER, just after not great news, you name it. Laughter is the greatest relief of tension there is and I honestly don’t know how we would have gotten through all those years without it.

Taylor was always full of life and just didn’t know how to hold on to a bad mood. And while there was certainly plenty to be in a bad mood about, she found the humor in everything. We passed endless miserable hours being silly, retelling funny stories from years past, making fun of just about anything, and conjuring up a little mischief. Our collective blood pressure dropped from the pleasure of it.

Needless to say, the laughter dried up quite a bit after Taylor passed, but remembering those moments of hilarity still makes me laugh. Taylor’s laughter lit up a room and brought infectious joy to those around her. Just remembering her irrepressible smile makes me smile.

When life gets tough, find something to laugh about. It truly is the best medicine.
